Dr. Ashmita Gupta


Ashmita Gupta is an economist. Her primary areas of interest are empirical microeconomics, labor, development, gender, public finance and international trade. She has been associated with and taught in several research institutes in India and abroad. Her expertise includes the use of statistical tools to study social problems. Her papers have been published in reputed journals and has been cited by eminent scholars all over the world. She has been a postdoctoral researcher in Wageningen University , Netherlands and Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai. Before that she completed her PhD from University of Houston. She has done masters from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Bachelors from Delhi University.

Research Interests

  • Identify through research and field surveys those catalytic combinations of social forces that empower women and promote participatory development.
  • Identification of intervention points for ‘empowerment of women’ which could facilitate the working of civil society organizations engaged either in literacy campaigns or other development organizations.
