Dr. Sunita Lall


M.A. (History, Patna University), PhD (Patna University)

Dr Lall has been working as an Aministrator of ADRI Institute. She has been associated with the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), Patna since 1991 both as a Researcher and the Editor of a monthly magazine (Ahle Subah), specially meant for neo-literate women. She has also been shouldering the bulk of the administrative responsibilities for ADRI. Since June, 1996, the association with ADRI has been in an honorary capacity. She had been a Visiting Scholar to Kentucky University, USA on a four month study grant provided by the Rockefeller Foundation. She has published nearly 30 articles on various social and economic issues in Bihar. Seven of them are included in an edited volume Bihar Economy : A Reconnaissance’. These articles are both in Hindi and English.

Was offered Rockefeller Humanities Fellowship by Appalachian Centre at the University of Kentucky, USA to work on 'Institutional Dimensions of Women Empowerment. The Fellowship was for a period of three and a half months Working as Lecturer in History since December 1996,first in TPS College, Patna (during December, 1996 to November, 2001) and then in SMD College, Punpun (since November, 2001)

Research Interests

  • Identify through research and field surveys those catalytic combinations of social forces that empower women and promote participatory development.
  • Identification of intervention points for ‘empowerment of women’ which could facilitate the working of civil society organizations engaged either in literacy campaigns or other development organizations.
