Research Consultant / Research Associate – Health System

Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) is a research institute working in the area of social science research since 1991. The Centre for Health Policy (CHP) at ADRI is set up as one of the specialized centre to focus on improving health and nutrition sector in Bihar. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the CHP is envisaged to be a think tank on health/nutrition sector and support the government of Bihar in evidence-based policy making. Project Overview:

CHP is a starting a research project to understand the access, capacity, cost of care and output of public health care delivery system in Bihar. The primary objective of the project is to understand the efficiency of public health care delivery system. The data for this project will be derived from facility survey, stakeholder interview, record review and patient exit interview.

CHP is looking for suitable candidates for this and other similar health systems projects. Term of Reference of two open positions are:

Research Consultant – Health Systems (RC-HS)

RC-HS will be responsible for overseeing the technical as well as operational aspect of research.

Specific Responsibilities:

Working under the overall supervision of Project Lead, the RC-HS will act as the backbone of project and supervise technical and operational aspect. S/he will provide strategic support to project lead. Other responsibilities are:

-          Liaison with senior health system mangers in districts to facilitate smooth implementation of the project.

-          Prepare, review and piloting of study materials and training of staff involved in the study.

-          Monitoring of study implementation, problem solving and facilitation.

-          Provide feedback and support to field team.

-          Rigorous analysis of data, draft report preparation and writing study reports.

-          Any other task assigned by the project lead.

Required Qualification, Experience and Skills:

-          Education: Medical graduate (MBBS or allied such BAMS/BDS etc.) with Postgraduate training in public health or PhD in public health and allied sciences such population studies/demography or health economics.

-          Excellent computers and data analytic skill and knowledge of statistics and statistical software STATA.

-          Strong scientific writing skills and verbal communication in English and Hindi (essential).

-          Experience of working with government health systems and policy makers.

-          At least three years of work experience in health sector.

Remuneration: Renumeration package for this position will commensurate with qualification and experience. Maximum up to 12 lakhs INR annually.

Research Associate – Health System (RA – HS)

RA – HS will provide techno-managerial support to project lead. S/he will provide project management support to the project team. Other specific responsibilities are:

·         Oversee the administrative management of project.

·         Monitor the field operation of project. Monitor and review ongoing data collection and provide timely feedback for corrective measures.

·         Support and facilitate training of field staff, development of study tools and other study related work.

·         Review initial data, do data management and tabulation.

·         Maintain all study related records, minutes of meeting, field notes etc.

·         Support in drafting study report and dissemination.

·         Any other task assigned by the project lead.

Required Qualification, Experience and Skills:

-          Education: Masters in public health or related field/ statistics/ social work/ economics or related field.

-          Excellent computer and data management skills. Knowledge of STATA is desirable.

-          One-year experience of working in public health, especially with government decision makers.

-          Good command in written and verbal English and Hindi is essential.

Remuneration:  Renumeration package for this position will commensurate with qualification and experience. Maximum up to 9 lakhs INR annually.

Location:  Both position is based at Patna with substantial field travel and travel to Delhi.
