Green Audit Report Release
29 Jul 2022

The Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate (CSEC) had conducted Green Audit of Patna Women’s college (PWC) for the NAAC accreditation 2022-23. Upon successive deliberations and evaluation of the existing status of the college in the sectors of Energy, Waste, Water and Biodiversity CSEC-ADRI has released the “Green Audit report” at PWC on July 29, 2022 in the chair of Principal Dr. Sr. M. Rashmi A.C.

Some notable findings from the report are as follows:

  • Biodiversity audit: The campus has 22 per cent of its area under green cover, and rich with floral and faunal diversity of more than 97 species.
  • Water audit: A total of 2,45,000 liters of water is pumped out daily. It has been  observed that there are 20 taps in the PWC campus that are causing losses  and they require repair. However, the college also has sustainable ways of  recycling water as well as precautionary messages posted across the campus  to ensure minimum water loss.
  • Energy audit: The average electricity consumption of each building in a year is 704 kWh and the primary reason is the presence of old wirings and high energy consuming appliances. Findings show that the new buildings have low energy consuming and star rated appliances while the streetlights of the campus are run on solar, which are helping attain environmental sustainability.
  • Waste audit: As per the observations from the audit, the college lacks waste segregation technology and sewage treatment which otherwise would have resulted in efficient waste management.  However, the biodegradable waste generated from the campus are used for composing and generating organic manure.

Overall, the college has adopted several student-led green initiatives that is creating awareness and promoting environment sustainability.
