About organization

The Centre for Studies on Environment and Climate is a thematic center at the Asian Development Research Institute (CSEC-ADRI). It is also an ENVIS Resource Partner on Water Management and Climate Change, under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India. As a social science research organization, ADRI has been working in the field of economics, public budget, finance, and other policy agendas in Bihar for more than 3 decades. However, the Centre is working in the domains of environment and climate change since 2017.

As Bihar’s notable policy-focused research think-tank, the Institute is looking for a thoughtful, enterprise-minded individual who can be part of the clean mobility project in Bihar. The Centre is looking for a self-motivated, dynamic ‘Project Coordinator’ with knowledge and skills in the transportation sector, especially for conducting evidence-based research in collaboration with multi-stakeholders, including government institutions.

About project

The Institute has developed city-specific clean air action plans for non-attainment cities of Bihar. Findings from the study have indicated significant contributions from the transport sector, specifically through vehicular emissions. Through evidence-based policy research, feasible framework, and viable implementable recommendations, the Institute believes in accelerating smooth transitioning pathways in the mobility sector, specifically in the passenger and commercial segments. The project aims to provide necessary insights on the local-level transition to fulfill intended commitments of low-carbon development and growth pathways for Bihar.

Desired qualifications and skills

  • Post-graduation in relevant disciplines of environment and social sciences from a recognized university/ institution will be  preferred;
  • Relevant sectoral experience of 2-3 years, with excellent knowledge of  field-based survey design, data collection, validation, research, and  analysis using tools like GIS, R, and Python would be most suitable for  this position;
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder engagement, especially with  government departments and CSOs, and professional writing skills like -project reports, project proposals, etc., will be an advantage;

Scope of engagements

The Coordinator will work closely on different aspects of project planning and field-based research assignments, primarily in Bihar and neighboring states. Engagement entails the following roles:

  • Coordinating field-based research design and implementation using scientific techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, surveys, case studies, and household/ individual interviews in urban as well as smaller towns or villages;
  • Analyzing survey data and interpretation using relevant data analysis packages and preparing presentable research outcomes in form of reports, policy briefs, research papers, articles, etc.;
  • Leveraging different tools for knowledge dissemination and communications using the most advanced methods like an interactive web-based toolkit or target-specific information, communication, and education modules.

Terms of Engagement

  • The Coordinator will be appointed initially for 1 year, under a fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of project funding;
  • The base working location will be Patna (Bihar), however, need-based field visits in other districts or states may be required;
  • The Coordinator will be offered consolidated monthly emolument of Rs. 40000, which will be negotiable subject to the candidate’s professional qualifications.
