1st Valedictory Function of Green Skill Development Programme

Patna, 24 August. Centre for Environment, Energy and Climate Change (CEECC) at Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), an ENVIS Resource Partner on Water Management and Climate Change under the aegis of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) organized the first valedictory session of the Green Skill Development Program (GSDP) trainees on August 24, 2018. Two courses were being conducted at CEECC, ADRI on Water Budgeting & Auditing and Pollution Monitors: Air & Water Pollution from 9th July, 2018.

The event witnessed the gracious presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Sushil Kr Modi and Dr. Anandi Subramanian, Senior Economic Advisor, MoEFCC. Shri Modi said stated that the Bihar government is adding “Climate Change” in the name of Department of Environment and Forest which itself suggests how crucial is the study on changing climate patterns has become. He also focused on the coming festival of Raksha Bandhan and urged everyone to tie the ‘Raksha Sutra’ to the trees as they are our real protectors.

Dr. Subramanian reiterated the ministry’s vision of the project by stating “the demographic dividend in the country coupled with huge school dropouts instigated us to skill the youth in non-traditional field as well where there is a dearth of workforce and thus green skilling the youth became our motto considering the deteriorating environment”.

Dr. Abinash Mohanty, Director, CEECC, expressed his view that “a proper skilling is absent and thus we optimistically look forward to this course and the trainees of the pilot batch we are felicitating” Dr. A K Ghosh, Chairman, Bihar Pollution Control Board also address on Water Auditing and Budgeting.

The trainees also presented their experience of the course in front of the honourable guests. GSDP is a ministry’s ambitious project that aims at combating the environmental challenges the world is facing today through green skilling the country’s youth. The 45 days of intensive training included classes by faculties and researchers from premier institutes of Bihar, interaction with grass-root social workers and hands-on training through field orientation in relevant sector. A total of 40 students were felicitated and distributed the certificate by the Chief Guest Shri Modi and Guest of Honour Dr. Subramanian. Professor Prabhat P Ghosh, Director, ADRI welcomed the honourable guests with a welcome speech.
