Events of ADRI Patna

Patna. June 12. On the concluding day of the Innovation Workshop being organized by Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) to remember its founders Dr. Shaibal Gupta and Dr. Prabhat P Ghosh, Professor Dr. Sourav Chakraborty of the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata described the main qualities of good research work and motivated the participants of the workshop to do high-impact research. He gave a high-level idea of what research in theoretical Computer Science is all about in his talk. Subsequently, Dr. Ashmita Gupta, Member-Secretary of ADRI introduced the audience to the subject of modern Empirical Economics. Using examples of path-breaking research in the field, she explained why Bihar is the ideal place to work on these problems.
Earlier, Dr. Sunil Kumar Gupta of CSEC-ADRI stated that the Central Pollution Control Board’s 2024 PM 2.5 level figures for Patna show a marked improvement at 76.0 µg/m3 from the 2017 level of 139.5 µg/m3. However, this level needs some more improvement to fall within the permissible limits set by Government of India’s National Ambient Air Quality Standard. He praised the Government of Bihar for introducing e-vehicles and banning diesel-run vehicles which are more than 15 years old to address the problem of air pollution. ADRI’s Dr. Arpan Sharma showed how geo-spatial Science is being employed for the good of the common people by quoting Night Light (NTL) Radiance data, which are essentially images derived from NASA satellites showing the intensity of artificial light being emitted at night. The more intense the lights, the greater is the economic activity of that region. According to ISRO, Bihar’s NTL data is ten times higher than that being registered at the all-India level, thereby reflecting vigorous economic activity in the state. Further, Anmol Rai and Rachna Mishra of ADRI explained the nuances of how to make a good Proposal in research work.
A cultural program marked the end of the two-day event.
