Building Bihar’s Future through Industry and Innovation
26 Aug 2025

Patna. August 26. For creating ten million jobs over the next five years in Bihar, the government has offered land ranging from 10 to 25 acres at the rate of Rupee one for those investors who will create a minimum of one thousand jobs for the state. Also, to address the bottleneck of scarce land for setting up industries, approximately 15 thousand acres of land have been augmented in the government’s land bank over the past year. The Hon’ble Industries Minister of Bihar, Shree Nitish Mishra announced this today while delivering the Key Note Address of an event titled “Building Bihar’s Future through Industry and Innovation”. The program was organized by the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI). The Hon’ble Minister also proudly divulged the fact that about 1600 start-ups are currently in operation in the state. Out of these, 300 are being led by women. He also said that for developing manufacturing and service industries, various financial incentives are also being provided while keeping a focus on preserving the environment. He predicted that Bihar is on its way to becoming a major growth engine in eastern India in keeping with the vision of the central government.

Earlier, Dr. Ashmita Gupta, Member-Secretary of ADRI, presented the findings of a report submitted to the Industries Department. It was titled “Industrial Growth and Skills Development Opportunities in Bihar.” The major recommendations of the report are that there is a concentration of industries in and around the city of Patna and major urban areas like Muzaffarpur and Begusarai. Therefore, the government should diversify and invest in industries in the emerging corridors of industrial activity like the districts of Madhubani, Jahanabad, Arwal, etc. to address this issue. While planning its industrial trajectory, the government should focus on employment generation, sustainability and growth. Selection of the type of industry should have a judicious mix of these things. It should also invest in better data management and visualization for effective decision-making.

The event was attended by Professor Neha Hui and Uma Kambhampati of the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.  Dr. Mousumi Gupta, Dr. Sunita Lal, and Dr. Sanchita Mahapatra of ADRI were also present at the event. Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Director of JSS-ADRI delivered the Vote of Thanks.
