Patna, August 27. The Source Apportionment (SA) study (using Receptor Modelling method) of Ambient Particulate Matter (PM) in 2021 of Patna city report was launched today by Hon’ble Minister Shri Neeraj Kumar Singh, Department of Environment, Government of Bihar. The launch of the report programme was organised by the Centre for Environment Energy and Climate Change at the Asian Development Research Institute (CEECC, ADRI), in association with the Bihar Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) at Aranya Bhawan, Department of Environment HQ, Patna. This study was carried out in collaboration with The Energy Resources Institute (TERI) and CEECC, ADRI, and supported by the Bloomberg Philanthropies.

The Hon’ble Minister Shri Neeraj Kumar Singh appreciated the study findings and recommendation to tackle the recent pollution trends of the Patna city shown in the report. He also pointed out some of the ongoing as well as upcoming initiatives undertaken by the Government to control the city-level pollution load. He has ensured necessary compliances and stringent action will be taken by the government in consideration of findings from both studies.

Findings from the report were presented by Mr. R. Suresh, Fellow and Area Convenor, TERI. According to him, the 2020-2021 SA study is complimenting the findings from the SA study (using the Dispersion Modelling method) of Patna city carried out in 2018-2019 by CSTEP and CEECC, ADRI.

Shri Dipak Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Environment, Government of Bihar shared his experiences with the implementation of the city-specific clean air action plans. He pointed some of the important actions taken by the Government to control the pollution load and how the Government has increased the air quality monitoring network in the State, which will help in curbing severe pollution level.

 

Member Secretary, BSPCB Shri S Chandrasekar delivered the welcome address to the august gathering present physically and at virtual platforms. The programme was graced by the Chairman, BSPCB Dr. Ashok Kumar Ghosh, Member Secretary, ADRI Dr. Prabhat P Ghosh, Ms. Puja Tewary from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Dr Suruchi Bandwaland from TERI, and Deputy Director Mr Vivek Tejaswi, CEECC, ADRI.
