Patna. May 27. Although access to potable fresh water for Bihar’s people has been improving, Bihar has become a parched land of late because of increased urbanization, exponential population growth, and rapid economic development. Herein comes the need to conserve water. So, Save Water drives were undertaken by EIACP-ADRI, which is under the aegis of the Government of India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and is managed by the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) in Patna.
The campaigns were under the Mission LiFE movement and were held in 13 schools spread over 6 Bihar districts, viz. Sheohar, Jamui, Nawada, Saharsa, Bhojpur, and Sitamarhi throughout the month of May. Some of these schools were the Middle School at Dumma in Sheohar District and the Upgraded Middle School at Khaprahi in Nawada District.
Although access to water has been recognized as a human right, unrealistic pricing of this precious commodity has caused shortages. The ground water table has dipped alarmingly in the state. This initiative by the EIACP aimed to sensitize school students towards water conservation, sustainable lifestyle practices, and environmental responsibility through interactive awareness sessions and activities.
