Seminar on Engaging with Private Sector for Universal Health Coverage: The Central Role of Regulation
05 Nov 2018

The National Health Policy-2017 for the first time clearly defined conditionalities to strategically engage private sector to fulfil gaps in public health care delivery. Subsequently, the Government of India announced a mammoth health insurance scheme under the umbrella of ‘Ayushman Bharat’. One of the important provisions of the scheme is to engage with private sector. It is also widely envisaged that private sector in health will proliferate considerably after the implementation of this scheme, which in turn will improve accessibility of secondary and tertiary level health care in remote areas. But at the same time, the private sector in health is very heterogenous in terms of types of providers and channels of service delivery. Although majority of the human resources in informal private sector is regulated by professional bodies, effective regulation of health facilities is almost negligible.

In this context, A seminar is being organized by the CHP at ADRI.
