Valediction of the Green Skill Development Programme on Pollution Monitors: Air and Water Pollution and ETP, STP: Operation and Maintenance

Patna, January 22. The Centre for Environment Energy and Climate Change (CEECC) at Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), a policy research think-tank has organized Valedictory Function for Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) on Pollution Monitors: Air and Water Pollution, and ETP, STP: Operation & Maintenance on January 22, 2021. The training was organised in collaboration with the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) and Tarumitra.  In the occasion, the trainees were awarded a National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) level certificate from the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India by Shri Dipak Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, DoEFCC, Government of Bihar.

The objective of the skill development training is to provide hands-on training, thereby building the capacity of the individual and create a resource skilled pool who can contribute to the environmental resource management in future. It is a unique skill development initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and Government of India to address the present situation of air and water pollution in urban settings. The Centre has facilitated this training programme in close collaboration of BSPCB, Tarumitra, GCPC, and Sewage Treatment Plants of Beur, Tripollia Hospital and Kurji Hospital.

 Shri Dipak Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Bihar shared his views on eco-friendly development and its impact in conserving the environment. He gave a message to the trainees that there are three things that are most important in reference to Climate Change, one of which is the effect of Climate Change is being and will be perceived in our life time, second is the effect of climate change is impacted on all species, including human beings and third is the management of Climate Change is not responsibility of one institute or organisation but it is responsibility of everyone. In the welcome address, Dr. Prabhat P Ghosh, Director of CEECC, ADRI explained the relevance of such skill development and Environmental issues in Bihar. Professor Ashok Kumar Ghosh, Chairman, BSPCB in his speech addressed the importance of the Pollution Monitors and critical issue of different water species, solid waste management and loss of biodiversity. He pointed out the future demand of such skilled human resource in research and implementation of work on air and water pollution led by the State Government. He also mentioned that every hospital and other commercial facilities should install ETP/ STP based on their wastewater types. Shri Subramanian Chandrasekar, Member Secretary, BSPCB highlighted the upcoming demand of trained sewerage or effluent treatment plants in Bihar. He also pointed out the requirement of such skilled human resources in air quality management work in different parts of the State.

The occasion was also graced by the Special Lecture delivered by Dr Gopal Sharma, Director in-charge of Zoological Survey of India, Patna. He shared the ongoing activity under Namami Gange Mission for wastewater management and rejuvenation of the River Ganga.
